１６章
1. さて、ファイサイ派の者たちとサドカイ派の者たちとが来て、試みようとして、彼に天からの証拠を見せるように求めた。
2. しかし、彼はその者たちに答えて仰せになった。「夕になると、あなたがたは言うではないか。『明日は晴れだ。』と。それは、空が赤いからだ。
3. 又、朝には、『今日は荒れだ。』と言う。空が赤暗い色だからだ。偽善者たちよ、あなたがたは空の様子を知って見分けながら、時々の徴候を見分けられないのか。
4. 悪くて不純な世代は徴を求める。しかし、預言者ヨナの徴以外には一つの徴も与えられない。」そして、彼らを残して去って行かれた。
5. さて、彼の弟子たちは向こう岸に渡ったが、彼らはパンを携えるのを忘れていた。
6. すると、イエスは彼らに仰せになった。「ファリサイ派の者たちとサドカイ派の者たちのパン種を調べて用心していなさい。」
7. すると、彼らは互いに議論し合って言った、「きっと、わたしたちがパンを持って来なかったからだ。」
8. さて、イエスはこれを知って彼らに仰せになった。「信仰が小さな者たちだ。どうしておまえたちはパンを持って来なかったからといって、議論しているのか。
9. おまえたちには、五千人の時の五つのパンの事がまだわからないのか、又、覚えていないのか？（その残りを）幾つの手かごに拾い上げたのか？
10. また、あの四千人の時の七つのパンはどうだったのか？幾かごに拾い上げたのか？
11. どうして、ファリサイ派の者共やサドカイ派の者共のパン種に注意せよ、と私が言ったのがパンについての事ではないことがわからないのか。」
12. その時彼らは、彼が仰せになったのはパン種の事などではなく、あのファリサイ派とサドカイ派との教えの事であることを悟ったのである。
13. さて、イエスはフィリッポ・カイサリヤの沿岸に入って行きながら彼の弟子たちに尋ねて、こう仰せになった。
「彼らは人の子のことを、だれと言っているのか？」
14. そこで彼らは言った、「ある人はバプテスマのヨハネと言い、他の人はエリヤと言い、又、別の人々は、エレミヤか、預言者たちの一人だと言っています。」
15. 彼はこう仰せになった。「それでは、おまえたちは私をだれであると言うのか？」
16. シモン・ペテロが答えて言った、「あなたこそキリスト、生ける天の神の息子です。」
17. そこで、イエスは答えて仰せになった。「おまえは幸いだ、バルヨナ・シモーン。これをおまえに啓示したのは、血肉ではなく、もろもろの天におられるわたしの父だからだ。
18. そこで、私もおまえに言う。おまえはペテロだ。そして、私はこの岩の上に私の教会を建てる。ハデスのもろもろの門もそれに勝つ事はない。
19. また、私はおまえにもろもろの天の王国の鍵束を授ける。おまえがこの地で縛るものは、何でももろもろの天でも縛られ、又、おまえがこの地で解く事は、何でも、もろもろの天においても解かれる。」
20. その時、彼は彼の弟子たちに、だれにも彼がイエス・キリストであることを話してはいけないとお命じになった。
21. その時から、イエスは彼の弟子たちに彼がエルサレムに入り、長老たちや祭司の長たち、また、法学者たちから多くの迫害を受け、そして殺され、且つ、三日目には復活しなければならない事を示し始められた。
22. すると、ペテロはイエスをつかまえて彼を咎め始め、こう言った、「恵みがありますように。主よ。あなたさまに決してそれらの事は起きません。」
23. しかし、イエスは振り向いて、ペテロに仰せになった。「退け、サタン。私の邪魔者よ。お前の考えは天の神に属する事ではなく、人間たちの事だ。」
24. その時イエスは彼の弟子たちに仰せになった。「だれでも私について来たいなら、彼は自分自身を捨てて彼の十字架を負い、それから私に従いなさい。
25. だれでも彼の命を救おうとする者は、皆それを失う。しかし、私のために彼の命を失っている者はそれを見出すからだ。
26. もし、彼がこの世界のすべてを得ているとしても、その魂を失なっているならば何の利益になるのか？それとも、彼は何を与えてその魂に換えるのか？
27. 人の子が彼の使いたちと共に父の栄光の中を来る時に、彼はそれぞれにその行いに従って報いる。
28. アーメン。私は、おまえたちに言う。人の子が彼の王国のうちに来るのを見るまでは、決して死を味わわない者たちが、これらの、ここに立っている人々の内にいる。」

The Pharisees and Sadducees Seek a Sign
16 Then the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and testing Him asked that He would show them a sign from heaven.
2 He answered and said to them, “When it is evening you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red’;
3 and in the morning, ‘It will be foul weather today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ Hypocrites! You know how to discern the face of the sky, but you cannot discern the signs of the times.
4 A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign shall be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.” And He left them and departed.
The Leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees
5 Now when His disciples had come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread.
6 Then Jesus said to them, “Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees.”
7 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, “It is because we have taken no bread.”
8 But Jesus, being aware of it, said to them, “O you of little faith, why do you reason among yourselves because you have brought no bread?
9 Do you not yet understand, or remember the five loaves of the five thousand and how many baskets you took up?
10 Nor the seven loaves of the four thousand and how many large baskets you took up?
11 How is it you do not understand that I did not speak to you concerning bread?—but to beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”
12 Then they understood that He did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
Peter Confesses Jesus as the Christ
13 When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?”
14 So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
16 Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
17 Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.
18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.
19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”
20 Then He commanded His disciples that they should tell no one that He was Jesus the Christ.
Jesus Predicts His Death and Resurrection
21 From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day.
22 Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, “Far be it from You, Lord; this shall not happen to You!”
23 But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.”
Take Up the Cross and Follow Him
24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.
25 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.
26 For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?
27 For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his works.
28 “Assuredly, I say to you, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom.”
