２６章
1. さて、イエスはこれらの言葉をすべて言い終えると、彼の弟子たちに仰せになった。
2. 「汝たちが知っているとおり、二日後にパスカの祭りが来る。そして、人の子は十字架に掛けられるために渡されている。」
3. その時、祭司長たちや法学者たち、また、民の長老たちは、カヤファと呼ばれる大祭司の家の庭に集まった。
4. そして、彼らはイエスを罠にかけて殺すために互いに相談した。
5. 彼らは言った、「祭りの時はまずい。群衆の中で大騒動が起らないようにしなければ。」
6. さて、イエスがベサニアのレプラの人のシモーンの家におられると、
7. ある女性が雪花石膏の入れ物に入った高価な軟膏を持ってきた。そして、食卓に向って横になっておられる彼の頭に注いだ。
8. すると、それを見ていた彼の弟子たちは憤ってこう言った、「なぜこんな無駄なことをするのか？
9. この軟膏なら高く売れたに違いない。そして、貧乏な人にあげれば（良かったのに）」
10. しかし、それを知ってイエスは彼らに仰せになった。「なぜ汝たちは女を困らせるのか。彼女は私に良い事をしたのだ。
11. 貧乏な人々は、いつでも汝たちと一緒にいるではないか。しかし、私はいつもおまえたちとはいない。
12. 彼女は、私の埋葬のために私の体に軟膏を注いでくれたのだ。
13. アーメン。私はなたちに言う。全世界で福音が宣教されるところでは、彼女がしたことも彼女の記念として語られる。」
14. その時、十二（弟子）の一人で、イスカリオテーのユダと呼ばれる者が大祭司の所に出て行って、
15. こう言った。「彼を渡したらいくらくれるか？」すると、彼らは彼に銀を三十を量った。
16. そして、その時から、彼は、何とか彼を彼らに渡せるようにと務めたのである。
17. さて、パスカの（祭りの）初日に、イエスの弟子たちが来て彼にこう言った。「私たちはどこでパスカの食事をするおつもりですか？」
18. すると、彼は仰せになった。「町に入ってある人の所に行き、そして彼に言いなさい。『先生[1]が言っています。私の時が近づいている。私はあなたのところで弟子たちとのパスカを守ることにしたい。』」
19. そこで、弟子たちはイエスが彼らに命じられたようにし、パスカの用意をした。
20. そして、夕が来た。彼は十二人と一緒に横になられた。
21. 彼らが食べていると、彼は仰せになった。「アーメン、私は汝たちに言う。汝たちの一人が私を引き渡す。」
22. すると、彼らは大いに悲嘆にくれて、それぞれが彼に言い始めた。「主よ。決して私ではないでしょうね。」
23. しかし、彼は答えて仰せになった。「皿に私と一緒に手を浸している人が私を売り渡す。
24. 確かに人の子は彼について書かれているように行く。しかし、人の子を渡す人は忌まわしいことだ。もしかすれば、その人は産まれなかった方が良かったのに。」
25. 彼を引き渡そうとしていたユダが彼に答えて言った、「まさか私ではありませんよね。ラビ。」彼は彼に言われた。「汝だ。」（おまえが言ったのだ）
26. さて、彼らが食べていると、イエスはパンを取って祝福し、そして、彼はそれを砕いて弟子たちに与え、それから仰せになった。「取って食べなさい。これは私の体だ。」
27. また、彼は杯を取って、感謝をささげながら彼らに与えて、こう仰せになった。「皆でそれを飲みなさい。
28. これは、私の血の新しい契約であって、多くの人のもろもろの罪の赦しのために流されるものだ。
29. しかし、私は汝らに言う。これから後は、私の父の国で汝らと改めて一緒に飲む時までは、ブドウから作った物を私は決して飲まない。」
30. それから、彼らは賛美を歌いながらオリーブ山に入って行った。
31. その時、イエスは彼らに仰せになった。「汝らは今夜のうちに皆私に躓かされる。『私は羊飼いを撃つ。そして、羊の群は追い散らされる』と書いてあるからだ。
32. しかし、私の復活の後には、汝らよりも先に、私はガリラヤに行こう。」
33. そこで、ペテロは答えて彼に言った。「もし、みんながあなた様に躓かされたとしても、私は決して躓くようなことはありません。」
34. イエスは彼に仰せになった。「アーメン。汝に言う。この夜のうちにも、鶏が鳴く前に汝は私を三度否定する。」
3. ペテロは彼に言った。「たとえ、あなた様と共に死ななければならないとしても、私は決してあなた様を否定するような事はしません。」弟子たちも皆同様に言った。
36. それから、イエスは彼らと共に、ゲッセマネーと呼ばれている場所に行かれた。そして、彼は弟子たちに仰せになった。「私が向こうに行って祈っている間、汝らはここに座っていなさい。」
37. それから、ペテロと、ゼベダイの二人の息子たちとを連れられたが、彼は悲嘆にくれ、また、弱り衰えられた。
38. その時彼らに仰せになった。「私の魂は、あまりの悲しさで死ぬほどだ。ここに留まっていて、私と共に目をさましていなさい。」
39. そして、少し進んで行ってから、彼はご自分の顔を伏せて祈り、そして、こう仰せになった。「わたしのお父様。もし、できるのでしたら、この杯を私から過ぎ去らせて下さい。しかし、私の思うようにではなく、あなたのみここころをおこなって下さい。」
40. それから、彼は弟子たちのところに来て、彼らが眠っているのをご覧になった。そこで、ペテロに仰せになった。「どうしておまえたちは、私と一緒にひと時も目を覚ましていることが出来ないのか？
41. おまえたちが試みに落ち込まないように、起きて祈っていなさい。霊はもちろんそうしようと願っている。しかし、肉体は弱い。」
42. また、二度目に行き、そして、彼は祈って仰せになった。「ああ、わたしのおとうさま。もし、私がこれを飲む以外にはこの杯を過ぎ去らせることが出来ないのでしたら、あなたのみこころを行って下さい。」
43. それから、彼はまた弟子たちの所に来て、彼らが眠っているのをご覧になった。彼らの両目が重かったからである。
44. そこで、彼は彼らを置いておいて、もう一度行き、そして、三度目に同じ事を言って祈られた。
45. それから、彼は彼の弟子たちの所に来られた。そして、彼らに仰せになった。「眠ったままなのか。まだ休んでいるのか。見なさい。その時が間近になった。そして、人の子は罪人たちの手の中に引き渡されようとしている。
46. 起きなさい。さあ、行こう。見なさい。私を[i]引き渡そうとしている者はすぐそこだ。」
47. すると、見よ、イエスがまだ話しておられるうちに、十二人の一人のユダが来た。そして、彼と共に大勢の人々が剣や棒を持って、祭司長や人々の長老たちの所からやって来た。
48. そして、彼を裏切ろうとしている者が、彼らに合図を送ってこう言った、「だれでも自分が口づけするならば、彼がその者だ。彼を捕まえろ。」
49. そして、すぐにイエスの所にやって来て、彼は言った。「ラビ[2]、お元気で。」そして、大胆に彼に口づけした。
50. しかし、イエスは彼に仰せになった。「友よ。おまえは何のために来たのか。」その時、彼らはイエスに手をかけ、彼を捕らえたのである。
51. すると、見よ、イエスと共にいた者の一人がその手をのばして剣を引き抜いた。そして、祭司長の僕に斬りつけて、彼の耳を切り落とした。
52. その時、イエスは彼に仰せになった。「汝の剣を元の所に戻しなさい。剣を取る者は皆、剣によって滅ぼされるからだ。
53. それとも、汝は、私が今からでも私の父を呼ぶ事ができると考えないのか。そして、彼は、私に十二軍団以上の使いを備えて下さることを？
54. それでは、どうやってこうなるべきだと書かれている御言葉が成就されるのか？」
55. その時、イエスは群衆に向かって仰せになった。「泥棒に向かうように、あなたがたは私に向かって剣や棒を持って出てきたのか？私が神殿であなたがたと一緒にいて、座って教えていた日々には、あなたがたは私を捕まえようとはしなかった。
56. しかし、預言者たちの聖書の言葉が成就されるために、この事は起こらなければならない。」その時、弟子たちは彼を捨てて皆逃げ出した。
57. さて、イエスを捕らえた者たちは、彼を大祭司カヤファの所に引っぱっていったが、そこには法学者たちや長老たちが互いに集まっていた。
58. しかし、ペテロは遠くから大祭司の邸宅までも彼の後について行った。そして、僕たちと一緒に事の始終を見届けようとした。
59. そして、大祭司や長老たち、また[ii]サンヘドリンは、全員がイエスに対する偽りの証言を探し求めた。彼を殺すためである。
60. しかし、見いだせなかった。そこで、多くの偽証人たちが来たが、何も見いだせなかった。
61. しかし、ついに二人の偽証人たちが来て言った。「このように言いました。『私は神の神殿を破壊し、そして、それを三日のうちに建てることが出来る。』と。」
62. そこで、大祭司が立って彼に言った。「お前は何も答えないのか？お前に対して証言されているこれらの事はどうなのか？」
63. しかし、イエスは沈黙しておられた。そこで、大祭司は彼に答えて言った。「私は生ける神によってお前に厳命する。もし、お前が天の神の息子、キリストであるならば、われわれにそう言うように。」
64. イエスは彼に仰せになった。「汝の言うとおりである。私はさらに汝に言う。今から後、人の子が力ある方の右の座[3]から天のもろもろの雲に乗って来るのを見る。」
65. その時、大祭司は彼のもろもろの衣を引き裂いてこう言った。「彼は（神を）汚した。どうしてわれわれはこれ以上証人を必要としようか？見よ、諸君は彼の汚し言葉を聞いたのだ。
66. 諸君はどう考えるのか？」すると、彼らは答えて言った。「彼は死に価する。」
67. その時、彼らは彼の顔に唾を吐き、拳で殴りつけ、また、ある者は手のひらで彼を打って
68. こう言った。「われわれに預言しろ。キリストよ。お前を打ったのはだれだ？」
69. さて、ペテロは邸宅の外に座っていた。すると、彼のところに一人の若い女性の召使いが来てこう言った、「あなたもガリラヤ人イエスと一緒でしたね。」
70. しかし、彼は皆の前で否定してこう言った、「お前が言っていることは知らない。」
71. さて、彼が出て行き、玄関に入ろうとしていると、他の人が彼を見た。そして、そこにいる人々にこう言った。「この男はあのナザレ者の、イエスと一緒にいた。」
72. しかし、また、彼は誓いをもって否定した。「私はその男のことは知らない。」
73. 少したってからやってきて、彼と共に立っていた人々もペテロに言った。「確かにお前は彼らの一人に違いない。お前の、その話し方 くせ ではっきりしたからだ。」
74. その時、彼は激しく呪いと誓いとをし始めた。「私はその男のことは知らない。」すると、すぐに鶏が鳴いた。
75. そこで、ペテロは彼に仰せになったイエスの言葉を思い起こしたのである。「鶏が鳴く前に、三度おまえは私を否定する。」それから、彼は出ていって激しく泣いた。

The Plot to Kill Jesus
26 Now it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, that He said to His disciples,
2 “You know that after two days is the Passover, and the Son of Man will be delivered up to be crucified.”
3 Then the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders of the people assembled at the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas,
4 and plotted to take Jesus by trickery and kill Him.
5 But they said, “Not during the feast, lest there be an uproar among the people.”
The Anointing at Bethany
6 And when Jesus was in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper,
7 a woman came to Him having an alabaster flask of very costly fragrant oil, and she poured it on His head as He sat at the table.
8 But when His disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, “Why this waste?
9 For this fragrant oil might have been sold for much and given to the poor.”
10 But when Jesus was aware of it, He said to them, “Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a good work for Me.
11 For you have the poor with you always, but Me you do not have always.
12 For in pouring this fragrant oil on My body, she did it for My burial.
13 Assuredly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her.”
Judas Agrees to Betray Jesus
14 Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests 15 and said, “What are you willing to give me if I deliver Him to you?” And they counted out to him thirty pieces of silver.
16 So from that time he sought opportunity to betray Him.
Jesus Celebrates Passover with His Disciples
17 Now on the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying to Him, “Where do You want us to prepare for You to eat the Passover?”
18 And He said, “Go into the city to a certain man, and say to him, ‘The Teacher says, “My time is at hand; I will keep the Passover at your house with My disciples.”’”
19 So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them; and they prepared the Passover.
20 When evening had come, He sat down with the twelve. 21 Now as they were eating, He said,“Assuredly, I say to you, one of you will betray Me.”
22 And they were exceedingly sorrowful, and each of them began to say to Him, “Lord, is it I?”
23 He answered and said, “He who dipped his hand with Me in the dish will betray Me.
24 The Son of Man indeed goes just as it is written of Him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good for that man if he had not been born.”
25 Then Judas, who was betraying Him, answered and said, “Rabbi, is it I?”
He said to him, “You have said it.”
Jesus Institutes the Lord’s Supper
26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.”
27 Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you.28 For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. 29 But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.”
30 And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial
31 Then Jesus said to them, “All of you will be made to stumble because of Me this night, for it is written:
‘I will strike the Shepherd,
And the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’
And the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’
32 But after I have been raised, I will go before you to Galilee.”
33 Peter answered and said to Him, “Even if all are made to stumble because of You, I will never be made to stumble.”
34 Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you that this night, before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.”
35 Peter said to Him, “Even if I have to die with You, I will not deny You!”
And so said all the disciples.
The Prayer in the Garden
36 Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to the disciples, “Sit here while I go and pray over there.” 37 And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and He began to be sorrowful and deeply distressed. 38 Then He said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me.”
39 He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.”
40 Then He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “What! Could you not watch with Me one hour? 41 Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed iswilling, but the flesh is weak.”
42 Again, a second time, He went away and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if this cup cannot pass away from Me unless I drink it, Your will be done.” 43 And He came and found them asleep again, for their eyes were heavy.
44 So He left them, went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words. 45 Then He came to His disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners. 46 Rise, let us be going. See, My betrayer is at hand.”
Betrayal and Arrest in Gethsemane
47 And while He was still speaking, behold, Judas, one of the twelve, with a great multitude with swords and clubs, came from the chief priests and elders of the people.
48 Now His betrayer had given them a sign, saying, “Whomever I kiss, He is the One; seize Him.”
49 Immediately he went up to Jesus and said, “Greetings, Rabbi!” and kissed Him.
50 But Jesus said to him, “Friend, why have you come?”
Then they came and laid hands on Jesus and took Him.
51 And suddenly, one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew his sword, struck the servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.
52 But Jesus said to him, “Put your sword in its place, for all who take the sword will perish[f] by the sword.
53 Or do you think that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He will provide Me with more than twelve legions of angels?
54 How then could the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must happen thus?”
55 In that hour Jesus said to the multitudes, “Have you come out, as against a robber, with swords and clubs to take Me? I sat daily with you, teaching in the temple, and you did not seize Me.
56 But all this was done that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled.”
Then all the disciples forsook Him and fled.
Jesus Faces the Sanhedrin
57 And those who had laid hold of Jesus led Him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled.
58 But Peter followed Him at a distance to the high priest’s courtyard. And he went in and sat with the servants to see the end.
59 Now the chief priests, the elders, and all the council sought false testimony against Jesus to put Him to death,
60 but found none. Even though many false witnesses came forward, they found none.[h]But at last two false witnesses came forward
61 and said, “This fellow said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God and to build it in three days.’”
62 And the high priest arose and said to Him, “Do You answer nothing? What is it these men testify against You?”
63 But Jesus kept silent. And the high priest answered and said to Him, “I put You under oath by the living God: Tell us if You are the Christ, the Son of God!”
64 Jesus said to him, “It is as you said. Nevertheless, I say to you, hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven.”
65 Then the high priest tore his clothes, saying, “He has spoken blasphemy! What further need do we have of witnesses? Look, now you have heard His blasphemy! 66 What do you think?”
They answered and said, “He is deserving of death.”
67 Then they spat in His face and beat Him; and others struck Him with the palms of their hands,68 saying, “Prophesy to us, Christ! Who is the one who struck You?”
Peter Denies Jesus, and Weeps Bitterly
69 Now Peter sat outside in the courtyard. And a servant girl came to him, saying, “You also were with Jesus of Galilee.”
70 But he denied it before them all, saying, “I do not know what you are saying.”
71 And when he had gone out to the gateway, another girl saw him and said to those who were there, “This fellow also was with Jesus of Nazareth.”
72 But again he denied with an oath, “I do not know the Man!”
73 And a little later those who stood by came up and said to Peter, “Surely you also are one of them, for your speech betrays you.”
74 Then he began to curse and swear, saying, “I do not know the Man!”
Immediately a rooster crowed.
75 And Peter remembered the word of Jesus who had said to him,“Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.” So he went out and wept bitterly.
