マタイによる福音書第１１章（欽定訳）

１１章

1.　それから、時がたって十二弟子に命じ終わると、イエスは彼らの町々に教えと説教のために出発された。

2.　さて、ヨハネはキリストのもろもろの御業を獄中で聞いて、彼の二人の弟子を遣わして

3.　彼に言った、「あなたさまが来るべきお方なのですか。それとも、他の方をお待ちすべきでしょうか。」

4.　すると、イエスは彼らに答えて仰せになった。「ヨハネの所に行って、あなたたちが聞いている事、見ている事を詳しく伝えなさい。

5.　目の見えない人々は見えるようになり、足の悪い人々は歩いている。レプラの人たちは清められ、耳の聞こえない人々は聞いており、死人たちは生き返らされ、貧しい人々は福音を聞かされている。

6.　だれでも私につまずかされる事のない人は幸いだと」。

7.　さて、これらの人々が行ってしまうと、イエスはヨハネについて群衆に語り始められた。「あなたがたは、何を見に荒野に出て行ったのか。風に揺られる葦か。

8.　そうでないなら、あなたがたは何を見に出て行ったのか。柔らかな着物を着た人か。見なさい、その柔らかいものを着た人々は王たちの家にいるではないか。

9.　そうでないなら、一体、何を見に出て行ったのか。預言者か。そのとおりだ。私はあなたがたに言う。預言者よりもすぐれた者だ。

10.　この人こそ、『見よ、私はおまえの前に私の使者を遣わす。彼はおまえの前におまえの道を整える。』と書かれている、その人物だからだ。

11.　アーメン。私はあなたがたに言う。女性たちから生まれた者の中で、バプテストのヨハネほどの偉大な人物は起こっていない。しかし、もろもろの天の王国では、最も小さな者でさえも、彼よりも大きい。

12.　そして、バプテストのヨハネの日から今日に至るまで、もろもろの天の王国は猛烈に攻められ、攻める者ははげしくつかみ取っている。

13.　すべての預言者たちと法が預言しているのはヨハネまでだからだ。

14.　又、あなたがたが、もし、それを受け入れているなら、彼こそがまさに来たるべきエリヤなのだ。

15.　聞くための両耳を持っている者は、聞きなさい。

16.　しかし、この時代を私は何に例えようか。それは市場に座って仲間に呼びかけてこう言っている小さな子供に似ている。

17.　『ぼくらは君たちの為に笛を吹いたのに、君たちは踊らなかった。ぼくらは君たちに向かって悲しんだのに、君たちは泣かなかった』と。

18.　なぜなら、ヨハネが来て食べる事も飲む事もしないと、『彼はダイモニオンの虜になっているのだ。』と彼らは言い、

19.　人の子が来て食べたり飲んだりしていると、『見ろ、徴税請負人たちと罪人共の友人で、大食いの酒飲みだ。』と、彼らは言っている。しかし、その知恵は彼女の子らによって判断される」。

20.　それから、彼は、彼が最も力のあるもろもろの働きをしてきた町々を責め始められた。彼らが悔い改めなかったからである。

21.　「お前は忌まわしい、コラジンよ、お前は忌まわしい、ベスサイダよ、もし、ツロとシドーンとの中で、お前たちの中で行われた強力な業がされたならば、とっくに彼らは麻の粗布と灰の中で心を入れ替えた。

22.　しかし、私はお前たちに言う。裁きの日になると、ツロとシドーンの方がお前たちよりも耐えやすい。

23.　又、お前、天にまで揚げられたカペルナウムよ、ハデスに落とされる。お前の中で行われていた強力な業がもし、ソドムの中でされたならば、それは今日まで残っていたからだ。

24.　しかし、私はお前たちに言う。裁きの日にはソドムの方がお前よりは耐えやすい」。

25.　その時、イエスは答えて仰せになった。「おとうさま、天と地との主よ、あなたに感謝します。あなたはこれらの事を賢者[1]や教養人[2]とから隠し、赤子たちに現されました。

26.　そうです。おとうさま、このことがあなたの御前に喜ばれたからです。

27.　すべては私の父から私に渡されている。そして、父以外には子を知っている者はだれもいない。又、子と、子が示す事を望んだ者の外には、だれも父を知る者はいない。

28.　すべて疲れて重荷を負っている者は私に来なさい。そうすれば、私はあなたがたを休ませてあげよう。（新たにしてあげよう）

29.　私は柔和で心が低い者であるから、私のくびきをあなたの上に取り、そして、私に学びなさい。そうすればあなたがたはその魂に憩いを見つけるのだ。

30.　私のくびきはここちよく、私の荷は軽いからだ。」

John the Baptist Sends Messengers to Jesus

11 Now it came to pass, when Jesus finished commanding His twelve disciples, that He departed from there to teach and to preach in their cities.

² And when John had heard in prison about the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples 

³ and said to Him, “Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?”

⁴ Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell John the things which you hear and see: 

⁵ The blind see and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear; the dead are raised up and thepoor have the gospel preached to them. 

⁶ And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me.”

⁷ As they departed, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind? 

⁸ But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft garments? Indeed, those who wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses.

 ⁹ But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and more than a prophet. 

¹⁰ For this is he of whom it is written:

‘Behold, I send My messenger before Your face,
Who will prepare Your way before You.’

¹¹ “Assuredly, I say to you, among those born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. 

¹² And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force.

 ¹³ For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. 

¹⁴ And if you are willing to receive it, he is Elijah who is to come. 

¹⁵ He who has ears to hear, let him hear!

¹⁶ “But to what shall I liken this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling to their companions,

 ¹⁷ and saying:

‘We played the flute for you,
    And you did not dance;
We mourned to you,
    And you did not lament.’

¹⁸ For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon.’ 

¹⁹ The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Look, a glutton and a winebibber, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ But wisdom is justified by her children.”^[c^]

Woe to the Impenitent Cities

²⁰ Then He began to rebuke the cities in which most of His mighty works had been done, because they did not repent: 

²¹ “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.

 ²² But I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment than for you. 

²³ And you, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, will be brought down to Hades; for if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.

²⁴ But I say to you that it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment than for you.”

Jesus Gives True Rest

²⁵ At that time Jesus answered and said, “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and have revealed them to babes. 

²⁶ Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight. 

²⁷ All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him. 

²⁸ Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 

²⁹ Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 

³⁰ For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
