２１章

1.　さて、彼らがエルサレムに接近して来た時、オリーブ山に向かい合うベースファゲーに入った。それから、イエスは二人の弟子たちを遣わして
2.　彼らに仰せになった。「汝らの向こうの村に入って行くと、すぐに、つながれているロバと子ロバとを見つける。それを解いて私のところに連れてきなさい。
3.　もし、だれかが汝らに何かを言ってきたら、汝らは『主が彼らを必要としておられます。彼はすぐに返してこられます。』と言いなさい。」
4.　しかし、この事が起こったのは、預言者によって語られたことが実現するためであった。こう仰せになった。
5.　「シオンの娘に言え。見よ、あなたの王があなたの所に来られる。柔和なお方で、ロバと荷を負う子ロバに乗って。」
6.　弟子たちは行って、イエスが彼らに命じられたとおりにした。
7.　彼らはロバと子ロバとを連れて来て、その上に彼らの上着を乗せかけた。そして、彼らは彼をその上にお乗せした。
8.　すると、大群衆のうちの多くの人々が彼らの上着を道に敷き、また、他の人々は木々から枝々を切って来て、それらを道に敷いた。
9.　そして、先立って行っている群衆や、ついてきている群衆が叫びだしてこう言った、「ダビデの子にホサンナ、主の御名によって来られた方に幸いあれ。いと高き所に、ホサンナ。」
10.　さて、彼がエルサレムに入って行かれると、都市全体が動揺してこう言った。「この方は一体どなたですか。」
11.　すると、群衆は言った、「この方は預言者イエスだ。ガリラヤのナザレの方だ。」
12.　そしてイエスは天の神の神殿に入られた。それから、神殿で売っている者たちや、買っている者たちを追い出し、両替用の机を投げ出し、ハト売りの者たちの椅子をも（投げ出された）。
13.　「それから、彼らに仰せになった。（こう）書かれているだろう。『私の家は祈りの家と呼ばれる。』しかし、お前たちはそれを強盗の巣にしてしまった。」
14.　さて、神殿におられた彼のところに、目の見えない人々や脚の動かない人々がやって来た。そこで、彼は彼らをお癒しになった。
15.　しかし、祭司長たちや法学者たちは、彼が実現なさった驚くべき御わざと、子供たちが神殿の中で叫び、また、「ダビデの子にホサナ」と叫んでいるのを見て、彼らは激怒させられた。
16.　そして彼に言った、「これらの（者たちが）何と言っているのか、聞いているのか。」すると、イエスは彼らに仰せになった。「確かに。あなたがたこそ『幼児たちや乳児たちの口に、あなたは賛美を供えられた』と言っているのを、読んだことがないのか。」
17.　そして、彼らを放っておいて、彼は都を出てベサニアへ行かれた。そして、そこで夜をお過ごしになった。
18.　さて、朝早く町に戻って入られたが、彼は空腹になられた。
19.　そして、道端に一本のいちじくの木があるのを見て、彼はそこに行かれた。しかし、それには葉だけで、他に何も見られなかった。そこで彼はそれに対してこう仰せになった。「お前の実は永遠に、決してなるな。」すると、そのいちじくの木はすぐに枯れてしまった。
20.　すると、それを見た弟子たちは驚いてこう言った。「どうしていちじくの木がすぐに枯れてしまったのでしょうか。」
21.　そこで、イエスは彼らに答えて仰せになった。「アーメン。私は汝ら言う。もし、汝らが信じて疑わないならば、いちじくの木だけでなく、汝らがこの山に『お前は動き出して海に入れ』と言うならば、それはそうなる。
22.　また、どんな事でも、すべて祈りの中で信じながら求めるならば汝らはそれを受けるであろう。」
23.　さて、彼が神殿に入って教えておられる時、そこに祭司長たちや民衆の長老たちが来て言った。「お前は何の権威によってこれらの事をしているのか。また、だれがお前にその権威を与えたのか。」
24.　そこで、イエスは彼らに答えて仰せになった。「私にも一つ尋ねさせてもらいたい。もし、それを言ってくれたら、私も、何の権威によってこれらの事をしているのか汝らに言おう。
25.　ヨハネのバプテスマはどこからのものか。天からか、それとも人間からか。」すると、彼らは互いに論じ合って言った。「もし、われわれが天から、と言えば、彼は言う、『それでは、なぜ彼を信じなかったか。』
26.　しかし、もし、われわれが『人間からだ』と言うならば、われわれは大衆が恐い。」と言うのは、すべての人が、ヨハネが預言者であることを支持していたからである。
27.　そこで、彼らはイエスに言った、「われわれにはわからない。」そこで、彼も仰せになった。「私も何の権威によってこれらの事をしているのかを、汝らに言うまい。
28.　しかし、汝らはどう思うか。ある人が二人の子供を持っていた。そして、長男の方に来て、彼は言った、『子よ、今日は私のぶどう畑で働きなさい。』
29.　すると、彼は答えて言った、『私はいやです。』しかし、後になって、心を入れ替えて彼は行った。
30.　さて、次男の方に来て、彼は同じ様に言った。すると、彼は答えて言った、『主よ、行きましょう。』しかし、彼は行かなかった。
31.　その二人のうちのどちらが、その父の思いを実行したのか。」彼らは答えて言った、「最初の者だ。」イエスは彼らにこう仰せになった。「アーメン。私は汝らに言う。徴税請負人たちや遊女たちは、汝らよりも先に天の神の王国に入る。
32.　ヨハネは義の道をもって汝らのところに来たが、汝らは彼を信じなかった。しかし、徴税請負人たちや遊女たちは彼を信じた。しかし汝らはそれを見たのに後になっても心を入れ替えて彼を信じなかったからだ。
33.　もう一つのたとえを聞きなさい。ある家の主人がいた。彼はブドウ畑を作り、その周囲に囲いをしてその中に（土を）掘り、ブドウの木を植え込んだ。そして、塔を建て、農夫にそれを任せて国を離れた。
34.　さて、果実の季節が間近になった時、彼は、彼の僕たちを農夫たちの所に送って彼の分を受けさせようとした。
35.　すると、農夫たちは彼の僕たちを捕らえて一人を打ち、もう一人を殺し、もう一人は石で撃ち殺した。
36.　彼は、最初の僕たちよりも多くの僕を送った。すると、彼らは彼らにも同じ様にした。
37.　さて、彼はついに『彼らは私の息子は敬ってくれるだろう。』と言って、彼の息子を彼らに送った。
38.　しかし、農夫たちは息子を見て、彼らの間で言い合った、『これこそ跡継ぎだ。来い。彼を殺そう。そして彼の嗣業を奪い取ろう。』
39.　そして、彼らは彼をブドウ畑の外に投げ出して殺した。
40.　それでは、ブドウ畑の主人は来て、これらの農夫たちに何をするだろうか。」
41.　彼らは彼に言った、「悪い者共を彼は無慈悲に滅ぼすだろう。そして、そのブドウ畑を、実の（収穫の）季節には彼にその分を渡す、他の農夫たちに貸すにちがいない。」

43.　これだから、私は汝らに言う。天の神の王国は汝らから取り上げられて、実を産み出す国民に与えられる。
44.　また、この石の上に落ちる人は砕かれるが、それが彼の上に落ちる人は粉々にされる。」
45.　さて、祭司長たちやファリサイ派の人々は、彼のたとえ話を聞いて、彼らについて語られていることを知った。

46.　そこで、彼らは彼を捕らえたいと願ったが、群衆を恐れた。彼らが彼を預言者として固く支持していたからである。

Matthew 21

The Triumphal Entry
21 Now when they drew near Jerusalem, and came to Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, 
2 saying to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her. Loose them and bring them to Me.
 3 And if anyone says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord has need of them,’ and immediately he will send them.”
4 All this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying:
5 “Tell the daughter of Zion,
‘Behold, your King is coming to you,
Lowly, and sitting on a donkey,
A colt, the foal of a donkey.’”
6 So the disciples went and did as Jesus commanded them.
 7 They brought the donkey and the colt, laid their clothes on them, and set Him on them. 
8 And a very great multitude spread their clothes on the road; others cut down branches from the trees and spread them on the road.
 9 Then the multitudes who went before and those who followed cried out, saying:
“Hosanna to the Son of David!
‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’
Hosanna in the highest!”
10 And when He had come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, “Who is this?”
11 So the multitudes said, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth of Galilee.”
Jesus Cleanses the Temple
12 Then Jesus went into the temple of God and drove out all those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves.
13 And He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a ‘den of thieves.’”
14 Then the blind and the lame came to Him in the temple, and He healed them. 
15 But when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that He did, and the children crying out in the temple and saying, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” they were indignant
 16 and said to Him, “Do You hear what these are saying?”
And Jesus said to them, “Yes. Have you never read,
‘Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants
You have perfected praise’?”[i]
17 Then He left them and went out of the city to Bethany, and He lodged there.
The Fig Tree Withered
18 Now in the morning, as He returned to the city, He was hungry. 
19 And seeing a fig tree by the road, He came to it and found nothing on it but leaves, and said to it, “Let no fruit grow on you ever again.” Immediately the fig tree withered away.
The Lesson of the Withered Fig Tree
20 And when the disciples saw it, they marveled, saying, “How did the fig tree wither away so soon?”
21 So Jesus answered and said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but also if you say to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ it will be done. 
22 And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.”
Jesus’ Authority Questioned
23 Now when He came into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people confronted Him as He was teaching, and said, “By what authority are You doing these things? And who gave You this authority?”
24 But Jesus answered and said to them, “I also will ask you one thing, which if you tell Me, I likewise will tell you by what authority I do these things:
 25 The baptism of John—where was it from? From heaven or from men?”
And they reasoned among themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ He will say to us, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’ 
26 But if we say, ‘From men,’ we fear the multitude, for all count John as a prophet.” 27 So they answered Jesus and said, “We do not know.”
And He said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.
The Parable of the Two Sons
28 “But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to the first and said, ‘Son, go, work today in my vineyard.’ 
29 He answered and said, ‘I will not,’ but afterward he regretted it and went.
30 Then he came to the second and said likewise. And he answered and said, ‘I go, sir,’ but he did not go.
 31 Which of the two did the will of his father?”
They said to Him, “The first.”
Jesus said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you that tax collectors and harlots enter the kingdom of God before you.
 32 For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him; but tax collectors and harlots believed him; and when you saw it, you did not afterward relent and believe him.
The Parable of the Wicked Vinedressers
33 “Hear another parable: There was a certain landowner who planted a vineyard and set a hedge around it, dug a winepress in it and built a tower. And he leased it to vinedressers and went into a far country.
 34 Now when vintage-time drew near, he sent his servants to the vinedressers, that they might receive its fruit. 
35 And the vinedressers took his servants, beat one, killed one, and stoned another.
 36 Again he sent other servants, more than the first, and they did likewise to them. 37 Then last of all he sent his son to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’ 
38 But when the vinedressers saw the son, they said among themselves, ‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and seize his inheritance.’ 39 So they took him and cast him out of the vineyard and killed him.
40 “Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those vinedressers?”
41 They said to Him, “He will destroy those wicked men miserably, and lease his vineyard to other vinedressers who will render to him the fruits in their seasons.”
42 Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures:
‘The stone which the builders rejected
Has become the chief cornerstone.
This was the Lord’s doing,
And it is marvelous in our eyes’?
43 “Therefore I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken from you and given to a nation bearing the fruits of it. 
44 And whoever falls on this stone will be broken; but on whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder.”
45 Now when the chief priests and Pharisees heard His parables, they perceived that He was speaking of them.
 46 But when they sought to lay hands on Him, they feared the multitudes, because they took Him for a prophet.

2.　「もろもろの天の王国は、彼の息子のために結婚式を開催した国王に似ている。
3.　さて、彼は、招かれていた人々を結婚式に呼ぶために、彼の僕たちを遣わした。しかし、彼らは来ようとしなかった。
4.　彼はもう一度、他の僕たちを遣わしてこう言った。『招かれていた人々に言いなさい。『見よ、私は晩餐を用意した。私の牛どもも、肥えた家畜もほふって、すべては準備ができた。結婚式に来なさい』と。
5.　しかし、彼らは無頓着に、ある者は自分の土地に、他の者は彼の商売に去って行った。
6.　そして、残りの者たちは彼の僕たちを捕らえ、彼らを侮辱して殺した。
7.　それを聞いた国王は激しく怒り、彼の軍隊を送ってそれらの人殺し共を滅ぼした。また、彼らの町も彼は焼き払った。
8.　それから、彼は彼の僕たちにこう言った。『婚宴の用意はまったく出来ているのに、招かれていた者たちはふさわしくなかった。

13.　そこで、国王は僕たちに言った、『彼の両手足を縛って彼を運び出し、外の暗闇に投げ出せ。』そこには悲鳴と歯ぎしりとがある。
14.　というわけで、多くの（人が）呼ばれるが、選ばれる人はわずかなのだ。」
15.　さて、ファリサイ派の人々は行って、どうやって彼を言葉のわなにかけようかと謀った。

18.　しかし、イエスは彼らの悪意を知って仰せになった。「なぜ汝らは私を試そうとするのか。偽善者たちよ。
19.　その貢のコインを見せよ。」すると、彼らは彼にデナリを持って来た。
20.　そこで、彼は彼らにこう仰せになった。「これはだれの像、だれの称号なのか。」
21.　彼らは彼にこう言った。「カイサルのです。」その時、彼は彼らに仰せになった。「それなら、カイサルの物はカイサルに、天の神の物は神に返しなさい。」
22.　すると、（それを）聞いて彼らは驚かされ、彼から離れて去って行った。
23.　その日、サドカイ派の人々が彼の所に来た。彼らは復活などはないと言っているのである。

32.　『私はアブラハムの神であり、イサクの神である。また、ヤコブの神である』というのを。天の神は死者の神ではなく、生きている者の神なのだ。」
33.　すると、聞いた群衆は彼の教えに驚かされた。
34.　さて、彼がサドカイ派の人々を沈黙させたことを聞いて、ファリサイ派の人々が 互いに集まって来た。
35.　そして、彼らのうちの、一人の法学者が彼を試みてこう言った。
36.　「先生、法ではどの命令が最も大きなものですか？」
37.　すると、イエスは彼に仰せになった。「『汝は汝の主、天の神を愛しなさい。汝の心のすべてを以って、また、汝の魂のすべてを以って、さらに汝の精神のすべてを以って』
38.　これが第一のものであり、かつ最も大きい。
39.　二番目のものもそれと同様で、汝は汝の隣人を汝自身のように愛しなさい』
40.　これら二つの命令の中に、法と預言者たちがかかっている。」
41.　しかし、ファリサイ派の人々が集まったので、イエスは彼らに問うて
42.　こう仰せになった。「汝らはキリストをどう見ているのか。彼はだれの息子なのか。」 彼らは彼に言った、「ダビデの（息子）です。」
43.　彼は彼らに仰せになった。「それでは、ダビデはどうして御霊によって彼を主と呼んだのか。
44.　こう仰せになった。『主は私の主に仰せになった。あなたの敵を私があなたの足台のようにするまでは、私の右に座していなさい』
45.　そこで、もし、ダビデが彼を主と呼んでいるなら、どうして彼は彼の息子なのか？」

46.　しかし、だれも彼に答え得ることはできなかった。それだけではなく、その日から敢えて彼に問いかける人もなくなった。

Matthew 22

The Parable of the Wedding Feast
22 And Jesus answered and spoke to them again by parables and said: 
2 “The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who arranged a marriage for his son, 
3 and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding; and they were not willing to come. 
4 Again, he sent out other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited, “See, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and fatted cattle arekilled, and all things are ready. Come to the wedding.”’
 5 But they made light of it and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his business. 
6 And the rest seized his servants, treated themspitefully, and killed them. 7 But when the king heard about it, he was furious. And he sent out his armies, destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city. 
8 Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy.
 9 Therefore go into the highways, and as many as you find, invite to the wedding.’ 
10 So those servants went out into the highways and gathered together all whom they found, both bad and good. And the wedding hall was filled with guests.
11 “But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw a man there who did not have on a wedding garment. 12 So he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless. 13 Then the king said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and　cast him into outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
14 “For many are called, but few are chosen.”
The Pharisees: Is It Lawful to Pay Taxes to Caesar?
15 Then the Pharisees went and plotted how they might entangle Him in His talk. 
16 And they sent to Him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that You are true, and teach the way of God in truth; nor do You care about anyone, for You do not regard the person of men. 
17 Tell us, therefore, what do You think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”
18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, “Why do you test Me, you hypocrites? 
19 Show Me the tax money.”
So they brought Him a denarius.
20 And He said to them, “Whose image and inscription is this?”
21 They said to Him, “Caesar’s.”
And He said to them, “Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” 
22 When they had heard these words, they marveled, and left Him and went their way.
The Sadducees: What About the Resurrection?
23 The same day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Him and asked Him,
24 saying: “Teacher, Moses said that if a man dies, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife and raise up offspring for his brother.
 25 Now there were with us seven brothers. The first died after he had married, and having no offspring, left his wife to his brother. 2
6 Likewise the second also, and the third, even to the seventh.
 27 Last of all the woman died also. 
28 Therefore, in the resurrection, whose wife of the seven will she be? For they all had her.”
29 Jesus answered and said to them, “You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God. 
30 For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels of God in heaven.
 31 But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken to you by God, saying, 
32 ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.” 
3 And when the multitudes heard this, they were astonished at His teaching.
The Scribes: Which Is the First Commandment of All?
34 But when the Pharisees heard that He had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. 
35 Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying, 
36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”
37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 
39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’
 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
Jesus: How Can David Call His Descendant Lord?
41 While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, 
42 saying, “What do you think about the Christ? Whose Son is He?”
They said to Him, “The Son of David.”
43 He said to them, “How then does David in the Spirit call Him ‘Lord,’ saying:
44 ‘The Lord said to my Lord,
“Sit at My right hand,
Till I make Your enemies Your footstool”’?
45 If David then calls Him ‘Lord,’ how is He his Son?” 
46 And no one was able to answer Him a word, nor from that day on did anyone dare question Him anymore.

２３章

1.　さて、イエスは群衆と彼の弟子たちに語って
2.　仰せになった、「法学者たちと、ファリサイ派の者たちは、モーセの座に就いている。
3.　だから、彼らが汝らに守るようにと言っていることは、何でもすべて守り行いなさい。しかし、彼らの働きには習ってはいけない。彼らは言うけれども行ってはないからだ。
4.　彼らは重くて運びきれないほどの荷物をくくって人々の肩に乗せるが、それを動かすために、指一本でさえも動かしたがらない。
5.　また、彼らはそのすべての業を人々に見られるためにしている。彼らは幅広の聖句箱を作り、その衣のすそを広げている。
6.　そして、宴会の上座とスナゴーグの上席とを愛している。
7.　さらに市場で挨拶され、人々にラビ、ラビと呼ばれている。
8.　しかし、汝らはラビと呼ばれないようにしなさい。汝らの導師はただ一人、このキリストだけだからだ。そして、汝らはみな兄弟なのだ。
9.　また、地上ではだれも「あなたがたの父」と呼ばれるな。汝らの父は、ただ御一人、天にいます方だけだからだ。
10.　また、教師と呼ばれるな汝らの教師はただ一人、このキリストだけである。
11.　しかし、汝らの中で一番偉い者は、汝らの僕となれ。
12.　だれでも自分を高める人は低くされ、そして、だれでも自分を低くする人は高くされるからだ。
13.　 汝らは忌まわしい。法学者やファリサイ派の者たちよ。偽善者たちよ。汝らは、人々の前にあるもろもろの天の王国を閉ざし、自分が入ろうとしないだけではなく、入ろうとしている人々の邪魔さえしている。
14.　 しかし、汝らは忌まわしい。法学者やファリサイ派の者たちよ。偽善者たちよ。あなたがたはやもめたちを食い物にしている。そして、口実のように非常に長い祈りをする。そんなことをするから、汝らははるかに重い裁きを受けることになるのだ。
15.　汝らは忌まわしい。法学者やファリサイ派の者たちよ。汝らは、海と渇いた（地）を行きめぐって新しく改宗させる。そして、その人を自分自身の二倍のゲヘナの息子にする。
16.　汝らは忌まわしい。目の見えない案内人たちよ。汝らはこう言っている。『神殿によって誓う者は何でもないが、神殿の中の黄金によって誓うならば、果たす義務がある。』
17.　愚鈍で目のみえない者たちよ。黄金と、黄金をきよめる神殿とでは、どちらが偉大なのか。
18.　また、（こうも言っている）『だれでも、祭壇によって誓うならば何でもない。しかし、その上にあるささげ物によって誓うならば、果たす義務がある。』
19.　愚鈍で目の見えない者たちよ。ささげ物と、そのささげ物をきよめる祭壇とではどちらが大きいのか。
20.　祭壇によって誓う者は、祭壇とその上にあるすべての物によって誓っているからだ。
21.　又、神殿によって誓っている人は、その中におられる方によっても誓っている。
22.　そして、天によって誓っている者は、御神の玉座とそこに座しておられる方によって誓っている。
23.　汝らは忌まわしい。法学者やファリサイ派の者たちよ。偽善者たちよ。汝らは、はっか、アニス、クミンの十分の一を納めている。しかし、法の中でより重要な、正義とあわれみと信仰とをおろそかにしてしまっている。これらのものは行われなければならない。しかし、もう一方をおろそかにするな。
24.　盲目の案内人たちよ。汝ら小虫はこして取り除くのに、ラクダは飲み込んでいる。

Woe to the Scribes and Pharisees
23 Then Jesus spoke to the multitudes and to His disciples, 
2 saying: “The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. 3 Therefore whatever they tell you to observe, that observe and do, but do not do according to their works; for they say, and do not do. 
4 For they bind heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers. 
5 But all their works they do to be seen by men. They make their phylacteries broad and enlarge the borders of their garments.
 6 They love the best places at feasts, the best seats in the synagogues,
 7 greetings in the marketplaces, and to be called by men, ‘Rabbi, Rabbi.’
 8 But you, do not be called ‘Rabbi’; for One is your Teacher, the Christ, and you are all brethren.
 9 Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven.
 10 And do not be called teachers; for One is your Teacher, the Christ. 
11 But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant.
 12 And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.
13 “But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither go in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in. 
14 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows’ houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation.
15 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel land and sea to win one proselyte, and when he is won, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves.
16 “Woe to you, blind guides, who say, ‘Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple, he is obliged to perform it.’ 
17 Fools and blind! For which is greater, the gold or the temple that sanctifies the gold? 
18 And, ‘Whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gift that is on it, he is obliged to perform it.’ 
19 Fools and blind! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that sanctifies the gift?
 20 Therefore he who swears by the altar, swears by it and by all things on it.
 21 He who swears by the temple, swears by it and by Him who dwells in it. 
22 And he who swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God and by Him who sits on it.
23 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone. 
24 Blind guides, who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel!
25 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you cleanse the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of extortion and self-indulgence.
 26 Blind Pharisee, first cleanse the inside of the cup and dish, that the outside of them may be clean also.
27 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness.
 28 Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.
29 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you build the tombs of the prophets and adorn the monuments of the righteous, 
30 and say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.’
31 “Therefore you are witnesses against yourselves that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets. 
32 Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers’ guilt. 33 Serpents, brood of vipers! How can you escape the condemnation of hell?
 34 Therefore, indeed, I send you prophets, wise men, and scribes:some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from city to city, 
35 that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.
 36 Assuredly, I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation.
Jesus Laments over Jerusalem
37 “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!
 38 See! Your house is left to you desolate;
 39 for I say to you, you shall see Me no more till you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’ ”

２４章

1.　さて、イエスが神殿から去って行かれると、彼の弟子たちが来て、彼に神殿のもろもろの建物を指差した。
2.　しかし、イエスは彼らに仰せになった。「これらの物どもを全部見ていないか。アーメン。私は言う。石の上にある石が、投げ落とされないままでここに残ることは絶対にない。」
3.　さて、彼がオリーブ山に座しておられた時に、彼の弟子たちが人から離れ、彼の所に来て言った。「私たちにお話し下さい。いつそれらの事がおきるのですか。あなた様がお出でになることや、時代の完成の兆候は何ですか。」
4.　すると、イエスは彼らに答えて仰せになった。「汝らはだれかに誤らされないように注意していなさい。
5.　多くの者どもが私の名で『私が、キリストだ』と言いながら現れるから。そして、彼らは多くの人々をあざむく。
6.　また、汝らはもろもろの戦争のことを聞く。注意していなさい。惑わされないように。なぜならこれらの事は全て起こらなければならない。しかし、終わりはまだ来ない。
7.　民族は民族に向かい、王国は王国に向かって立ち上り、そこにはもろもろの飢饉や悪い伝染病や、地震がさまざまな場所で起こるからである。
8.　これらすべては、もろもろの悲しみのはじまりである。

24 Then Jesus went out and departed from the temple, and His disciples came up to show Him the buildings of the temple. 2 And Jesus said to them, “Do you not see all these things? Assuredly, I say to you, not one stone shall be left here upon another, that shall not be thrown down.”
The Signs of the Times and the End of the Age
3 Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?”
4 And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you.
 5 For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many.
 6 And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places.
 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.
9 “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake. 10 And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another.11 Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. 12 And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold.
 13 But he who endures to the end shall be saved. 
14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.
The Great Tribulation
15 “Therefore when you see the ‘abomination of desolation,’ spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place” (whoever reads, let him understand), 
16 “then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.
 17 Let him who is on the housetop not go down to take anything out of his house.
 18 And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes. 19 But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! 20 And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath. 
21 For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be. 
22 And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened.
23 “Then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘There!’ do not believe it. 
24 For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. 
25 See, I have told you beforehand.
26 “Therefore if they say to you, ‘Look, He is in the desert!’ do not go out; or ‘Look, He is in the inner rooms!’ do not believe it.
 27 For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 28 For wherever the carcass is, there the eagles will be gathered together.
The Coming of the Son of Man
29 “Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
 30 Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 
31 And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
The Parable of the Fig Tree
32 “Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near.
 33 So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near—at the doors! 
34 Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place. 
35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.
No One Knows the Day or Hour
36 “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven,[e] but My Father only.37 But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 
38 For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, 
39 and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.
 40 Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left. 
41 Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left. 42 Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. 43 But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into.
 44 Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.
The Faithful Servant and the Evil Servant
45 “Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his master made ruler over his household, to give them food in due season? 46 Blessed is that servant whom his master, when he comes, will find so doing.
 47 Assuredly, I say to you that he will make him ruler over all his goods. 
48 But if that evil servant says in his heart, ‘My master is delaying his coming,’ 
49 and begins to beat his fellow servants, and to eat and drink with the drunkards,
 50 the master of that servant will come on a day when he is not looking for him and at an hour that he is not aware of, 
51 and will cut him in two and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

3.　愚かな人々は、それぞれランプは持っていたが、彼女たちは油を持って来てはいなかった。
4.　しかし、思慮深い人々は、自分のランプと共に、彼女たちの入れ物に油を持っていた。
5.　しかし、花婿がぐずぐずしているので、皆は眠気で重くなり眠ってしまった。
6.　さて、夜中に叫び声が起こった。『見なさい、花婿が来られたよ！彼に会いに行きなさい。』
7.　そこで、これらのおとめたちは皆起き上がって彼女たちのランプを用意した。
8.　それから、愚かな者たちは思慮深い者たちに言った。『あなたたちの油をいくらか私たちにもらえませんか。私たちのランプは消えかかっているのです。』

37.　その時、義人たちは彼に答えてこう言う。『主よ私たちはいつあなたが空腹であったのを見て、食べ物をさし上げましたか？また、渇いているのを見て、飲み物をさし上げましたか？
38.　そして、あなたが寄留の外国人であったのを見て、寛大におもてなし致しましたか？また、裸だったので着せて差し上げましたか？
39.　また、いつあなたが病気であったのを見、牢獄におられるのを見て、あなたの所に行って差し上げたのですか？』、
40.　すると、王は彼らに言う。『アーメン。私は汝らに言う。これらの私の兄弟たちだからということで、最も小さな（人）の一人にしてくれたのは、あなたがたが私にした事なのだ。』
41.　そして、それから彼は左にいる人々に言う。『私から離れよ。これらの呪われた者どもよ。そして、ディアボロスとその使いたちのために用意されていた永遠の火の中に行け。
42.　私が空腹であったのに、お前たちは食べ物をくれず、私が渇いていたのに、飲み物をくれなかった。
43.　私が寄留の外国人であった時に、私を受け入れてくれなかったし、裸であったのだがお前たちは私に着せてくれなかった。そして、病気であったし、牢屋にいたのだが、お前たちは尋ねてくれなかったからだ。』
44.　その時、彼らは彼に言う。『主よ、いつ私たちはあなたの空腹だったり、乾いていたのを、また、寄留の外国人であったり、裸であったり、病気であったり、牢屋におられたの見て助けに行きませんでしたか？』
45.　その時、彼は彼らに答えてこう言う。『アーメン。私は[3]お前たちに言う。私の弟子だというのに小さな者たちの一人に[4]お前たちが何もしなかったのは、お前たちが私にもしなかった事なのだ。』

The Parable of the Wise and Foolish Virgins
25 “Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.
 2 Now five of them were wise, and five were foolish. 
3 Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them,
 4 but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
5 But while the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept.
6 “And at midnight a cry was heard: ‘Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him!’ 
7 Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. 
8 And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’
 9 But the wise answered, saying, ‘No, lest there should not be enough for us and you; but go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.’ 
10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding; and the door was shut.
11 “Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us!’ 
12 But he answered and said, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you.’
13 “Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.
The Parable of the Talents
14 “For the kingdom of heaven is like a man traveling to a far country, who called his own servants and delivered his goods to them. 15 And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability; and immediately he went on a journey. 
16 Then he who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and made another five talents. 
17 And likewise he who had received two gained two more also. 18 But he who had received one went and dug in the ground, and hid his lord’s money. 19 After a long time the lord of those servants came and settled accounts with them.
20 “So he who had received five talents came and brought five other talents, saying, ‘Lord, you delivered to me five talents; look, I have gained five more talents besides them.’ 
21 His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’
 22 He also who had received two talents came and said, ‘Lord, you delivered to me two talents; look, I have gained two more talents besides them.’
23 His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’
24 “Then he who had received the one talent came and said, ‘Lord, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered seed. 25 And I was afraid, and went and hid your talent in the ground. Look, there you have what is yours.’
26 “But his lord answered and said to him, ‘You wicked and lazy servant, you knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed.
 27 So you ought to have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming I would have received back my own with interest.
28 Therefore take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten talents.
29 ‘For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away. 30 And cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
The Son of Man Will Judge the Nations
31 “When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy[c] angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. 
32 All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats.
 33 And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left.
 34 Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
 35 for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; 
36 I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’
37 “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? 38 When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clotheYou? 39 Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ 40 And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’
41 “Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels: 42 for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink; 43 I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.’
44 “Then they also will answer Him,[d] saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’ 
45 Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’ 
46 And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
